Hello everyone! It's me, Crosswire!
It's been ages since I came to this site and I apologize for my disappearance. However I'm back and I have a lot of ideas on how to improve this place and make it more interesting. As much as I loved the initial premise of this game, there were a lot of issues that plagued it during it's initial test run. One thing I remember clearly was that battles were kind of confusing as unit placement seemed unimportant and a unit merely needed to be in the same area as the enemy to attack them.
I've come across a program that allows me to make maps and tokens that I can place on the map, move around, and even give icons and health bars to present status effects and such. Here's an example of how the maps could be used to show the actions the players are making with their units (I apologize for the quality of the writing and maps, I'm doing this at 3:00 AM out of sheer excitement)
Here is the beginning of a battle somewhere in one of the many Desert Areas of Africa. Reinforcements for a Federation base are moving through the desert on foot after losing their transport plane to Dopps. They're making great time until they circle around a large rocky slope to find the enemy lying in wait for them.
The Battle Begins!
-ZEON-
MS-06D Zaku Desert x6
MS-14GD Gelgoog G x3
-FEDERATION-
Type 61 Tank x7
RGM-79GL GM Commander Light Armor x2
FA-79 Full Armor Gundam (Unit 2) x2
The Federation have superior numbers thanks to their company of tanks, but the Zeon ambush force is made up entirely of mobile suits three, all of which are specifically tuned for the desert. The tanks can operate easily in the terrain and the GM Commander LA types are mobile enough that the terrain doesn't matter, however the Full Armor Gundams are slow and heavy normally and suffer significant movement penalties in this type of terrain.
As the Zeon units charge, the Full Armor Gundams retreat out of melee range of the Gelgoogs and the GM Commander LA Types rush in to engage them. The tanks move to engage the Gelgoogs, but are rushed at by three of the Desert Zakus while the other three circle around.
The Desert Zakus make short work of the Type 61's, taking down five with missiles and 120mm machine guns, though not without some damage. As the two Type 61's begin to pull back, the GM Commander LA types engage the Gelgoog G's, one going straight into melee and the other firing a shot off with it's mean rifle. The attempt to melee Gelgoog (2) fails miserably and its able to us it's beam saber to cut down the lightly armored mobile suit with one swing. The other GM grazes Gelgoog (1) and dodges it's return fire, but Gelgoog (3) hits it with it's own beam rifle and cripples it's health.
Meanwhile one of the Full Armor fires of a shot at one of the Gelgoogs and misses, all the while the Desert Zakus rush into melee the Gundams. This proves to be a foolish decision as one of the FA Gundams hits one of the Desert Zakus with it's beam cannon, obliterating it in one hit.
The FA Gundams retreat backwards, blowing away the Desert Zakus that rush after them with their powerful beam weapons. As the last of the Type 61's are destroyed, the remaining Desert Zakus rush down to attack the surviving GM, taking damage from it's light beam rifle as the Gelgoogs rush on past and into melee range of the Gundams.
The GM is slain, but brings down one of the Desert Zakus with it. The remaining two Desert Zakus push forward as the Gelgoogs engage the Gundams in melee. Two Gelgoogs focus on one Gundam, damaging it with their beam sabers and managing to gut it's cockpit and disable it mostly intact. The third Gelgoog attacks the remaining Gundam, but only damages it as it flees, blasting another Desert Zaku as it tries to put distance between itself and it's powerful melee enemies.
I'd like to hear your guys thoughts on my maps and if it's practical to use them in the rebooted forum!
